Sloop John B est à l’origine une chanson populaire traditionnelle des Caraïbes. Le John B. était un sloop dont l’équipage avait la réputation de devenir particulièrement joyeux quand il rentrait au port. Le bateau a été coulé à Eleuthera, aux Bahamas, vers 1900. Le standard est devenu célèbre avec les Beach Boys en 1966.

Sloop John B is a popular caribean song. The famous sloop embarked a joyful crew mainly when they returned to port. The boat sank in Eleuthera, Bahamas, around 1900. And the song became the well known worldwide standard with the Beach Boys in 1966.

English crews of Mabel, Cariacou & others classic yachts used to call me « John B » (my pleasure)
